Faith & Purpose

Realizing Our Sonship

3 min read

At this stage of my life, I’m discovering a deeper freedom in knowing God as my Father. I’ve believed in Him, but I’m learning what it means to live as His son—to trust that I am loved, covered, and held in His care. It has been a blessing to come to Him with a deeper understanding that I am His beloved. He adores me. He is pleased with me. I can bring Him my questions, my fears, and the places where I am still growing, knowing His heart toward me is filled with love and compassion. I don’t have to approach Him expecting anger or rejection. Even when He corrects me, He does so as a loving Father.

John 1:12 gives me a foundation for that assurance: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (KJV) Having received Him, I’m coming to understand what that relationship means for how I live. I can grow without treating every imperfection as a threat to my worth. I don’t have to have everything figured out to come to my Father. Knowing I belong to Him gives me room to breathe, release fear, and trust Him with my life.

That trust extends to my future. His desire is to bless me, and I find encouragement in the words He spoke to His people through Jeremiah: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” —Jeremiah 29:11, KJV. Those words help me understand His care for His people and entrust my own future to Him: welfare and peace, a future and a hope. I may not know every step ahead, but I can seek His guidance and trust His faithfulness along the way.

That assurance does not mean I will never experience hardship, disappointment, or loss. It means I can bring those things to Him, too. Romans 8:28 reminds me: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (KJV) Even when I cannot see how a circumstance could produce anything good, I can trust that my Father is still at work.

This is the encouragement I want to share: through faith in Christ, we are God’s sons and daughters, and He is our Father. We can bring Him our needs and our unfinished places. He watches over us, guides our steps, and sustains us through what we cannot understand. His love is never-ending. Hardship does not mean He has abandoned us, and correction does not mean He has stopped loving us.

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” —Romans 8:38–39, KJV.

Come to Him as His child. You are His beloved.
Your future is in His hands.
Be encouraged.
